IDH and Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) lays down harmonised rules for the marketing of construction products in the EU. It requires that cable manufacturers of any type of cable that is intended to fit permanently into the structure of a building (including power distribution, final circuit wiring, control and instrumentation and data communications cables) to European markets, meets the new cable testing, certification and CE marking requirements of CPR by 1st July 2017.

Cable wholesalers and distributors supplying into the EU also have a responsibility to ensure the cable manufacturers they work with have done this, or if necessary to undertake CE marking requirements themselves.

The CPR provides a common technical language to assess the performance of construction products. It ensures that reliable information is available to professionals, public authorities, and consumers, so they can compare the performance of products from different manufacturers in different countries.

Under CPR, all construction products and building materials must be CE marked against the essential requirements. A key requirement of this regulation that concerns cable manufacturers and distributers “Safety in case of fire”.

The CE Mark provides proof of this “fitness for purpose” and the manufacturer affixing the CE mark shows that the construction product will enable the finished construction works such as a home or school to comply with the Construction Products Regulation requirements.

Declarations of performance (DOPs) are now available on request for all relevant IDH Cables products. Please contact our sales office on 051 421 405.
